The lock provides a safe harbor for boats. The are plenty of advantages to anchoring your boat in Windmill Harbour, including less wear-and-tear on your boat since it will not be subject to tide changes. Additionally, the harbor is filtered at such a rate as to deter barnacle growth, so that means less cleaning of the hull.
